Climate Change Adaptation Program
Date:2076/02/27
The pace of climate change is accelerating globally, impacting both societies and ecosystems at an alarming rate. Nepal, with its unique vulnerabilities stemming from factors like high poverty and low adaptive capacity, faces profound challenges. In collaboration with Shantinagar Rural Municipality, Aawaj International initiated an insightful interaction program in the Dang district, addressing climate change adaptation and mitigation at the local level. Active participation from stakeholders and the local community enhanced the program’s effectiveness.
Aawaj International’s endeavor aims to cultivate a deeper understanding of climate change impacts and prioritize adaptation measures for communities, ecosystems, and species. The initiative focuses on fostering community-led adaptation processes rooted in local institutions, identifying equitable and cost-effective actions for integrated adaptation approaches. The goal is to align these efforts with Nepal’s National Adaptation Plan for Action (NAPA) and Local Adaptation Plan for Action (LAPA).
During the program, President Mr. Shashi Sharma Majgainya of Aawaj International and environmentalist Mr. Praveen Kumar Regmi presented a comprehensive overview of the current climate change scenario. Their insights not only shed light on the urgency of the matter but also advocated for the formulation of targeted programs for climate change adaptation within Shantinagar Rural Municipality.
The municipality extends its gratitude to Aawaj International for making significant contributions to this sector, marking the first of its kind in the area. This collaboration sets the stage for proactive and community-driven climate change adaptation measures, laying the foundation for a more resilient and sustainable future in the face of environmental challenges.
